Geist Reservoir
Located in Marion, Hamilton and Hancock counties in central Indiana, 12 miles northeast of Indianapolis, Geist Reservoir has a water area of 1,900 acres a maximum depth of 30 feet and an average depth of 11 feet.
Geist Reservoir is interesting for many reasons. For one, it is Indiana 's largest manmade lake, and second largest body of water, after Lake Wawasee. The Geist area is noteworthy for its wealthy and famous residents, especially the reservoir's shoreline inhabitants who include renowned professional sports figures, politicians, local media personalities, and businesspeople. "The Geist area" simply refers to the area around it, including northeast Lawrence Township in Indianapolis, and Fall Creek Township of Hamilton County in the eastern part of the Fishers area.
There are several golf course communities within the township and you are within minutes of Conner Prairie and Verizon Music Center. You are approximately 30 minutes from Downtown Indianapolis.
If staying close to home is more your style, there are many activities to be found on and around the lake. Residents are close to several golfing communities. On the weekend, the lake comes alive with boaters, water skiers, wake boarders, and swimmers. Fishing is also very popular on Geist reservoir for it is home to catfish, crappie, and bass.
